Art exhibition

Opsahl Gjestegaard hosts the fantastic sales exhibition "the light of the sun, the power of the moon" by artist Jonny Andvik from Telemark. The entire guesthouse is decorated with 39 paintings, prints and watercolours by this acclaimed Norwegian artist.

It is important to Andvik that each painting tells a story. He is fascinated by human traces and signs of life left behind in landscapes that last far longer than our bodies do.

"When searching for human traces in the landscape I trust my gut feeling to see how I can tell early stories experienced by others" says Andvik. "I spend a lot of time reflecting on who these people were? Why did they suddenly leave this place and let the things remain?"

Focusing on depicting ordinary objects and old buildings, Andvik is drawn to the old, the rough, the rusty, the damaged. Abandoned things that once held great meaning for ordinary people.

Jonny Andvik visits the guesthouse and talks about his art.

"There is much beauty in the imperfect"

Jonny Andvik (born 1966) lives and works in Telemark. Jonny Andvik has over 30 years' experience as a painter and graphic artist. He paints in a figurative style with motifs that speak of beauty in the imperfect while also carrying a narrative and symbols. Philosophy is a vital part of Andvik's creative force. Quo vadis? There is a wonder in the question that touches on time, who we are and the direction we are moving in.
